A closer look at Byd Studio's Beaumaris Residence, a generous sized low-lying bed designed by Principal Ben Yusop featuring ZETR double outlets with USB concealed within the joinery. In keeping with the sophisticated, calm, minimal material and colour palette throughout the Beaumaris Residence, Ben of BYD Studio was commissioned to design a solid American Oak custom bed with a natural blend oiled finish. 

“I personally love designing with function and integration in mind thus from scratch designed the King sized bed that would appear to simply ‘float’ like a cloud with a headboard scaled to span across more than 4 metres like a warming embrace including large and deep death-defying floating drawers to proportionately anchor the space.”

Clean and tactile wall sconces by Workstead NY complement the need for bed stand lighting with a sublime ballchain pulley and being wall mounted would ensure the surface remains clear. In keeping with the sophisticated, calm, minimal material and colour palette throughout the home, we remained faithful to the use of ‘super-clean’ solid American Oak in a custom blend natural oiled finished. This beautiful and classic timber species is utilised throughout the entire bespoke design which includes the built-in headboard, floating bedside drawer with integrated charging stations (via ZETR DGPO with USB) as well as all components of the bed itself including the bed slats and chamfered bed rails. 

The ZETR No. 13 Series is a recessed, trim-less, and completely flush range of switches and outlets that integrates with the surrounding wall surface to provide minimal impacT on the specified finish.

All the timber work was expertly crafted in Melbourne, where no expense was spared in personally selecting and laying each single span full-length board in sequence to ensure perfect rhythm and flow from corner to corner. 

”I have always loved the overall design and unique application of ZETR points in kitchens, bathrooms and other rooms where joinery is required so I jumped at the opportunity to deploy this here in a very unique and bespoke application right from the conceptual stage. Whilst this is cleverly concealed in a separate trap-door compartment of the floating bedside drawers it demonstrates how further flushed surface integration can be achieved by using ZETR in different ways. It made sense for me to ensure the clean look and function of the overall design translated down to the idea that even unruly charging cables would also lay mostly hidden from plain sight within the trap door space but when you do lift-up the trap door, you would be pleasantly surprised to find the clean shape and flat surface of the ZETR point sitting calmly ensconced and highlighted within its timber periphery of the floating bedside drawer.”
